WHAT IS LIFE SKILLS?

It's what we should have learned in a balanced and functional home from birth to 18-21 years of age. Since there is no manual to raise children, every family leaves something out. Things like how to manage my emotions, my anger, my pain- those types of things. We teach how to communicate, how to resolve my anger, and the other “how to's” in relationships. We do not always have the opportunity to watch functional parents as they resolve issues in communicating back and forth. So throughout the program we have developed exercises and worksheets that help in teaching these skills. It is video driven and shows us what is healthy. With this we are seeing tremendous change in families that have gone through this program.

LEARN MORE ABOUT LIFE SKILLS

WHO WE ARE

We are an affiliate of Life Skills International which is based in Colorado. They undergird our center with 30 years of experience in offering to the community a psycho-educational program that teaches an individual that wants to learn, how to develop strong healthy relationships in their lives. We are not a treatment program.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that exists to reach out to the hurting. We want to help individuals break free from behavior that can cause strained, broken, or abusive relationships. We seek to turn negative patterns around and to teach skills to promote growth. We teach individuals the reasons for behaviors without placing guilt or blame, showing each individual dignity and respect as they go through the healing process.

The Family Life Skills of Oregon Learning Center is a place where adults and middle and high school students attend gender separate classes to be taught valuable life skills from the "Learning to Live, Learning to Love" curriculum. Whether you are in an abusive relationship, experiencing marriage problems or are trying to break patterns of the past, Family Life Skills of Oregon can help.

what we do

We use a curriculum called “Learning to Live, Learning to Love”, teaching skills that a person may have missed between birth and 21 years of age. We teach how to implement these skills enabling each individual to rebuild their life and improve their self-image. Our goal is to help each individual increase their capacity to function in relationships and, where possible, to offer hope of reconciliation.

If you're Single, Married, Engaged, Separated, or Divorced this program can help you break free from the past and thus bring healing for you and those around you so their dysfunctions do not carry into the next generation. This is breaking what is called the “repetition compulsions”. This is the cycle of family issues that go from generation to generation until someone stops them.

We teach there are levels of responsibility and with that comes levels of preparedness to be able to take on those responsibilities. Life Skills teaches what a healthy relationship is so you can avoid wrong kinds of relationships. But even healthy people say that when they go through the Life Skills program they learned so much. They learn to understand themselves better and how others are wired giving tolerance and compassion towards them, leading towards a more peaceful life and community.

OUR VISION

We envision a community of individuals who are healed, renewed, and fulfilled; who have a clear understanding of their self-worth; and, who can create healthy families and relationships in their communities. We are here to meet the needs of the whole family.  Thus our name: Family Life Skills of Oregon.  "Learning to Live, Learning to Love" has also been proven as one of the best leadership development courses around.

When you understand yourself, you are then able to understand others and relationships are improved. Life is all about relationships and all of us can benefit from learning how to work with people better in our families, careers, and community.

OUR MISSION

To equip individuals with the skills necessary to build healthy relationships and to positively contribute to their communities.

PURPOSE STATEMENT

Our purpose is to meet the deep spiritual, social, and psychological needs of individuals and families.

We teach people (in gender separate classes) the reasons for behavior without placing blame or guilt, showing each one dignity and respect as they go through the healing process.
